We provide direct and immediate support for individuals and families experiencing both chronic and temporary personal crises. More specifically, the program assists care receivers by providing an array of social services:
A Success Story
In 2022, the Guild had over 18,000 household visits to our food pantry, an average of 80 per day. Prior to that in September 2019, we operated an open choice food pantry, but in March 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns it was closed and reopened in the Spring of 2022, dispensing with the open-choice concept for health and safety reasons.
However with the pandemic largely behind us, the Guild is proud to share that as at July 15, 2024 we are again in full operation of an open-choice food pantry. This means that individuals and families are able to select preferred foods and other amenities from shelves, giving greater autonomy over choice and creating a more wholesome visitor experience.
Our Care ReceiversMany of the households that benefit from our services are families that do not earn enough to be able to afford basic necessities, such as food and housing.
Although one or more individuals in the household is working, they still struggle to make ends meet. In addition to families, we also provide assistance to single adults and seniors who are on a fixed income, are mentally or physically disabled, or are unable to secure consistent employment.
One bag of groceries with a 3-day supply of food may enable them to put money towards a monthly bill such as gas, electricity, rent or medical expenses.
About one in five families who come to the Guild are Spanish-speaking. Our bilingual caseworkers help to make sure they receive healthy, nutritious food, coats, holiday gifts at Easter and Christmas, age-appropriate toys and other assistance that they need.
